Dr. Barnett provided primary care, including management of HIV/AIDS, in an under-served county of South Carolina for over 20 years prior to joining CAN Community Health in 2017. He had many administrative roles in that capacity, including Chief of Medical Staff, Managing Partner of an extensive medical practice, and Medical Director of several skilled nursing facilities, hospice groups, correctional centers, and EMS services. Dr. Barnett joined CAN Community Health as a medical provider and Medical Director and became regional Medical Director for South Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey clinics. In August of 2022, he was promoted to Chief Medical Officer and is responsible for directing all medical, dental, behavioral health, clinical research, and prevention services for all of CAN Community Health. He works closely with the entire executive team to achieve the highest level of service and success.
Dr. Barnett received his Medical Degree from the University of Connecticut, completed his residency in Hartford, Connecticut, and is board-certified in Family Medicine. He is a certified HIV specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Barnett has advocated for underserved and underrepresented groups in healthcare and has been involved in HIV prevention and advocacy. He believes in and practices with the goal of providing individualized and comprehensive care to every patient using a holistic approach. He has worked hard to increase our services at CAN and provide a medical home for all our patients.
