    CAN Community Health’s community awareness strategies are client centered and designed to meet the needs of a variety of audiences and community settings. Competent and culturally appropriate educators are available to facilitate sessions ranging from one hour to four hours. A four-hour course is held on the last Friday of every month in the Education Center at CAN in Sarasota and is open to the public. Sessions can also be scheduled throughout the county on request.

    Persons Living With HIV/AIDS Speakers’ Bureau

    CAN’s Speakers share their personal stories to a variety of audiences to increase awareness and to reduce the stigma of HIV.     VOICES/VOCES

    Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education & Safer Sex (VOICES/VOCES): A group-level, single-session video-based intervention designed to increase condom use among heterosexual African American and Latino men and women.

    HIV Basics, 104 and updates 

    HIV Basic is information about HIV/AIDS, including information on the life cycle of the HIV virus, its origins, symptoms, and testing. These are one, two or four hour course to meet licensure requirements for nurses, massage therapists, cosmetologists, and other health care and human service professionals. These classes are offered the last Friday of every month (except November and December).

    SISTA

    Group-level, gender- and culturally- relevant intervention, is designed to increase condom use with African American women. Five peer-led group sessions are conducted that focus on ethnic and gender pride, HIV knowledge, and skills training around sexual risk reduction behaviors and decision making.

    Health Care Professionals

    If you require HIV education to meet employment or professional licensing requirements, Community Care Center is certified by the Florida Board of Nursing to issue contact hours for HIV/AIDS education.
